ABOUT
THE 6th BRIGADE
Although the 6th Brigade's Headquarters
are in Graham Texas, the Brigade’s area of responsibility encompasses New Mexico,
Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. If you are a resident of one of these
states, please explore this website and, if interested in serving your country
as a volunteer in homeland security emergencies and serving military honors
for veterans’ funerals in your area, contact Colonel Crews McColloch at contact
info above.
At this special time in
our country’s history, we especially need volunteers to
train and be prepared to respond to our special missions. Facing
terrorists at home and overseas, we need volunteers who are
willing to help provide security at critical, potential targets
of terrorists, assist in ‘search & rescue’ missions
and extend special honors at the funerals of our fallen veterans
who have served our country in peace and war. AVR members
routinely provide flag details, military escort duty and rifle
squads at these graveside ceremonies.
• Who? Any veteran, non-veteran, either men or women over 18
years of age. There is no age limit. Your experience and
knowledge can be used in any or all of the AVR missions. The only
requirement in genuine patriotic motivation.
• When? As detachments are recruited and formed in your area, there will be
one or two training hours on a monthly basis, at the convenience of the detachment
members. All members are volunteers and training and service time will be scheduled
to accommodate each individual’s needs. Free training is available via the internet.
ARC & CERT/FEMA.
• Uniforms? Your application fee will pay for your AVR ID card, AVR shoulder
patch, name tapes and initial instructions. You may then purchase Class "A"
dress uniforms & BDUs (battle dress uniforms) at various sources through
the internet, local military surplus stores, etc. Veterans are authorized to
wear any ribbons/patches/badges that were earned during their military service....jump
wings, recondo, combat infantry badge, etc. Rank will be appointed according
to position, experience and sustained AVR service. Standard military bearing
and flag protocol will be observed, i.e., salutes, proper military drill movements,
etc.
The AVR is a uniformed service that can supplement/replace active
duty personnel when required, provide emergency services when
needed by FEMA officials and respond to needs of families of any
military service when their veteran’s funeral needs
assistance. Training will be provided for each of these missions,
as required.
