John stands with his sister, Charla E. Felter who also served in WWII US Navy, 8/24/44. She served as Apprentice Seaman, Seaman Second Class, Seaman FIrst Class, and Honorably Discharged 11/1945. They were both from Oneonta, NY.

Citation as follows...
"For outstanding performance in combat during the seizure of the Japanese- held islands of Saipan and Tinian in the Marianas from June 15 to August 1, 1944. Valiantly storming the mighty fortifications of Saipan on June 15, The Fourth Division, Reinforced, blasted the stubborn defenses of the enemy in an undeviating advance over the periously rugged terrain. Unflinching despite heavy casualites, this gallant group pursued the Japanese relentlessly across the entire length of the island, pressing on against bitter opposition for twenty-five days to crush all resistance in their zone of action. With but a brief rest period in which to reorganize and re-equip, the Division hurled its full fighting power against the dangerously narrow beaches of Tinian on July 24 and rapidly expanded the beachheads for the continued landing of troops, supplies and artillery. Uncheck by either natural obstacles or hostile fire, these indomitable men spearheaded a merciless attack which swept Japanese forces before it ravaged all opposition within eight days to add Tinian to our record of conquests in these strategically vital islands."

They heard our country's call. They went forth and counted not their own life dear, but offered it gladly in humanity's name -- for God and for the right.
The greatest war in the history of the world closed August 14, 1945, when the warring nations laid down their arms. The Germans, Japanese, and all their allies lay prostrate, defeated. They who knew no mercy and who had violated every law of humanity and civilization,
THEY BEGGED FOR MERCY. THE VICTORY WAS OURS!
John W. Felter is a part of that history of keeping this nation free.
God Bless America

A Salute Through Time

"I" salute you today,
For all which you've done.
The explanation? Our freedom was won!

"We" salute you today,
For all that you mean.,
It's surely how we view heaven, you see?

"They" salute you today,
Generations through time,
They respect and honor your service with pride.

"Our" Country is free
from what you have done,
You, plus one-hundred-million and one.
